New Leaf Animal Crossing Item Values

I make no apologies for my guides at this point in time.  I no longer take assignments from IGN.  The Guides I write now are for my own benefit as well as that of other players who may enjoy my style and appreciate my own idiosyncratic methods of logging data.

My Guides always have been based on MY own game experiences.  There was a time when I was requested to write Guides on deadline and told to garner information as quickly as possible from any one and every one willing to provide it.  That resulted frankly in errors.  At least if the Guides are based on my own experiences, I and any players who use them KNOW they must be correct (unless I have made a typing error, which does occur from time to time, especially where numbers are concerned.  I am terrible with zeros.)  They may be less than comprehensive but in time, usually will become comprehensive.  If you look at my General Guide for the old Animal Crossing Wild World, you will see how much information ultimately was packed into THAT tome.

Here, therefore, is my own Items List in the New Leaf Animal Crossing, based solely on teh Items I have found, caught, obtained through purchase or barter or received as Gifts!

Initially, I only intended to include the selling value of any item if sold to the Retail Shop.  I had forgotten the significance of size, which can be critical with respect to the various contests.  Where size is included, it will be provided in brackets.  Note that every insect or fish can vary with respect to size, so what is given is but one specific example in any case.  The actual size of any insect or fish that you catch will be fairly close, however, to the size given here.

STRATEGY FOR CONTESTS
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

With respect to the Insect and Fish Contests, any entry you give will be lost forever.  You therefore will profit most if you know the size of the larger insects and fish and do not enter one that cannot win.  Before any entry you make, you will be told the size of the current insect or fish that holds first place.

During the course of the day, you can enter more than one insect or fish.  If your entry is larger than the current holder of first place, you will be given a prize at once.  This prize will be a piece of furniture usually.    The trick, therefore, is to make entries that will be better than the current holder of first place during the day and then, at the very end of the contrest, give the linsect or fish that will be a little larger than the current holder of first place.  No need to give the LARGEST fish or insect in the world...

Generally speaking, the shadow of any Fish in the water gives a good clue as to its identity.  All the Eels, apart from the 'Moray Eel' are long and thin.  Almost ANY Fish that displays a fin above the water will be very large and quite valuable.  In terms of saltwater, the Sea Bass has one of the larger shadows but its shadow is very much like that of many other, more valuable fish, including the Giant Trevally.

You can store Fish and Insects at home in a cabinet or other piece of Furniture, although they cannot be attached to letters.  It is a good idea to store some of the larger Insects and Fish if you wish to make certain that you will win the next Contest.  Your Neighbours even may speak of this strategy so it evidently is not frowned upon.

If you run out of storage space, you can attach Furniture, clothing, fossils and even flowers to letters and then store them permanently at the Post Office or temporarily in the Post Slots in your Pockets.

SUMMER SEASON

In the Summer season, which would be June, July and August, the default insect found on Trees appears to be the Fruit Beetle, a small green beetle that sells for no more than 100 Bells.    If you go into a building and then come out again, the screen will reload with different Insects and Fish.

Two of the more elusive insects that can be caught only during the Summer Season are the Tarantula and the Scorpion.  Summer is the season when the Tree trunks tend to be loaded with insects.   The Scorpion and Tarantula are ground insects and sometimes more difficult to spy, even when they are present.  If you see a number of Insects on Trees in any area, you probably will not find either the Tarantula or Scorpion.  It is when no or very few Insects can be seen on Trees that you can expect a possible Scorpion or Tarantula sighting.

Both can attack but both can scuttle away quickly as well.  Move VERY slowly and position yourself to catch the Insect.  If you miss, you probably will suffer an injury that will place you back at your house.

Note that the size given in brackets can vary by 20 if not more... I try to give the largest size I have encountered whenever possible.
